Default ...does anyone understand Akira?

I watched a crazy movie a little while ago called Akira. Yeah, its pretty unreal, except I am confused about the ending. Anyone here seen the movie and can tell me what happened? Or do you not know either?

To quickly elaborate on the backdrop, Akira the movie was not Akira actually - it was an entire series that explored post-apocalyptic Tokyo. Seeing the movie by itself is usually disorienting and confusing

I am not sure about the series but I am familiar with the movie.Basically the government began genetic experiments after a child(Akira)displayed unusual abilities. Now as I understand it the government killed Akira cause they feared him.A cataclysmic event happened either just before they killed him or shortly after,I'm not sure atm.Well anyhow they took his organs and tissue samples to experiment on.The lil grey kids are products of the experiments. The collision with the lil grey kid and Tetsuo caused Tetsuo to change on a genetic level. What triggers their abilities are emotions.More powerful the emotion the more powerful their abilities. And everyone knows emotions can and do get out of control.Tetsuo started to mutate and was unable to control himself anymore. Now Akira was suppose to be a messiah to deliver the world from evil.It was foretold.Tetsuo would have destroyed the world. The lil grey kids could not stop him on their own.Akira came back to life to fulfill the prophecy.Akira,Tetsuo, and the 3 grey kids ascended to a higher plane of existince.

Very good explanation. To me that actually makes sense, and it goes perfectly with the movie, and some of my budding thoughts about it. Thanks.

The pride of my comic book collection

Akira was the movie that actually turned me on to Anime, and in turn to Manga Comics. It is a very bizare story and covers many of the base of the comic book story line. Unfortunately it can't cover everything, so there are a few gaps as far as character development, there is a limit to how long thay can make the movie, it's not like the TV programs that could go on and on. Mind you ths all started long, loooong ago, ~15 years

Congrats to the guys who watched, appreciated and liked Akira for what it was.

Akira turned out to be the one which all anime artists/producers/directors followed by example and out came classics like Ghost in the Shell etc.

Akira is one of my favorite. Definitely a cornerstone for Anime.

I would also recommend Grave of the Fireflies, and Berzerk. Easily some of the best IMO.
